7 Tricks to Prepare Your Distribution Center for Peak Season

Peak season for most distributor players is a little bit crazy and nightmares. How to be smart handle this peak season? This article will help you

1. Start early

Get your plan now, start to visualize what you need to prepare, at least three to five months prior before peak season start. Work through potential issues; to document, analyze and correct potential areas of risk; and to put new processes in place with enough time to test assumptions against actual results.

2. Learn from the past

Explore and analyze your past peak season. Focus on how is your maintenance and operational records to identify previous areas of weakness or bottlenecks. After that develop effective action plans to deal with them.

3. Prepare plan B

Irregularity condition might apply. Prepare for this. Consider working with your external party for sortation and distribution service to schedule a peak season audit well before peak season starts.

4. Recheck error tracking

This is important since during peak season every error might happen. Evaluate what most errors happened on the past, and make sure next peak season will not happen again.

5. Set up maintenance cycles

Examine critical areas where you should increase maintenance intervals. Conduct inspections and audits focusing on equipment components— motors and belt alignments, photo eyes and sensors, cabling, etc.

6. Make an emergency response plan

Risk management also needed to be created on distribution during peak season. Identify critical areas where you should pay more attention and give priority treatment. Examine and audits that focus on maintenance of the equipment.

7. IT skilled people, stand by!
